First of all, I must keep bragging about how amazing the food is here. The food in the MTC is so good, and its like cafeteria food. Today on pday my district and I went to this restaurant our teacher reccommended and HOLY COW it was THE best meat that was ever cooked. You sit there and they just bring you random cuts of delicious meat until you can't eat any more. For like 10 US dollars. The best meats were ox and warthog. I never would have guessed. I know I exaggerate a lot, but when I say this was the best meat that I have ever tasted I am not kidding. And that restaurant was apparently a really low budget cheap place. -_- stoked for the field. The pineapple here is to die for, its almost clear white and very sweet and delicious. I basically live on it here. Love the rice and beans, but only when I make it spicy.
The people here are so fun, obviously the brazilians are my favorite, but man the hispanics here are so fun. Sister Gustafson have made so many friends with people from all over! The Peruvians are my favorite(tell Richie that), but they are all so nice. We seriously can eat one meal with anybody here and be friends for life. So much fun. We've met people from Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Australia..all over. Its something else.
Unfortunely, as much as I love most of the people here, that royal blue skirt that I tore a hole in at the Sao Paulo airport got stolen here. Which is a super bummer because it basically matches everything. But thats first world pains right? It is just really frustrating. You would think that I wouldn't have to worry about that in the MTC, but I learned my lesson to not let a skirt dry overnight in the laundry room.
Fun story! The executive director here, Paulo, (don't worry, we are best friends) is really good friends with my mission president in Belo! I can't wait to meet him. But anyways they got this letter from Salt Lake saying that my mission had been changed to Baltimore Maryland. So they all freaked out and called Salt Lake and fixed it, I am still going to Belo Horizonte, Maryland just would have been my reassignment so there's that! Its kind of cool to get to find out where I would have gone had I not received my Visa!
Back to Sao Paulo. Going to the Sao Paulo temple and out shopping in the streets is the best part of the week, obviously. I got my first jersey for the Brasil National team, don't worry I will finally be able to take some pictures IN A WEEK because I will finally be in the field IN A WEEK!!
Sister Gustafson and I had a conversation with this precious old lady! In Portuguese! In real life! Rather cool I must say. It feels awesome to be able to finally understand everything my teachers in class are saying the whole time. I love portuguese! Can't wait to finally be in the field in a few days!
I started reading the Book of Mormon in Portuguese and you better believe I understand most of it. President Hinckley said that if you read the whole Book of Mormon in your desired language by the time you finish you will be fluent. So working on that. But its a really fun project, its really interesting to see the translation differences and learn new words.
A teacher came into my class and shared a random scripture with is DC 865 which says "Behold verily I say unto you the angels are crying unto the Lord day and night, who are ready and waiting to be sent forth to reap down the fields." This revalation was given obviously 200 years ago which means I was one of those angels! Pretty neat!
Lastly, I love my district. We have the best doctrinal discussions here, is so fun because as a missionary with the added "mantle" we just drink in the scriptures(I am counting down the minutes until conference!) But the other day we discussed for a while about how God knows all and that everything happens for a reason, and we all shared stories of how true this is and how I got my Visa exactly when I should have and I am supposed to be in Brazil at this very time.
Church is true!
