We had such a great week! On Wednesday we baptized Jorge! He was taught by the senior missionary couple, but they decided to leave for another area and passed him to us. We came in at the end, but he is the husband of a member, so we have seen him at church the last 3 months while he was waiting to get married and know him well. They got married Wednesday morning and he was baptized Wednesday night! The ward all came and we had a little party after. (Okay its Brasil, everything here is a party.) But it was great! And both he and Maria das Graças were confirmed Sunday!
We had a great Zone Meeting Wednesday and great experiences following the counsel! Our zone leaders are fresh from the mission office, so we feel pretty cool that President put them in our area, must mean that we really do have the best area! We found some awesome new investigators and had 6 of them at church Sunday, and Claudinei came! We had decided to stop teaching him for a while, and out of the blue he just came to church! Its all really exciting, its so much fun to be in this area, the members and investigators and my companion are the bomb! Its so hot, and we find bigger and bigger hills to climb ever day(I seriously dont understand why people live on top of huge hills) but the view is always worth it.
I forgot my camera cord today so I will send baptism pictures and pictures of the enormous hills next week.
But one of my favorite experiences was on Thursday. About a month ago, while on a more sketchy staircase on a mountain a man named Jose Maria stopped us, (he was drunk) and asked us what church we are and what we do always walking around at all hours of the day. He was drunk and I didnt quite trust his motives, so I said we are from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We are missionaries and we help people prepare to be baptized in the true church of Christ. Do you want to be baptized? He said yes, I got his address and left. I really wanted to visit him but the sensible Sister Miller never wanted to because of the type of people that hung around him. For weeks we ran into him drunk, him always saying that he is waiting for us to visit. We would tell him to stop drinking or he wont understand us or the spirit.
Anyways, the other day all of our plans for the afternoon had fallen through and we decided to walk a little down the street to pray where to go and ended up talking to a group of elderly sisters who live together. Guess who walked in. None other than Jose Maria! He was completely sober and said that this was his house, and he was happy we finally came. We taught him and he is going to come to church next week and prepare to be baptized. He has been sober for 9 days, I think partly because of how much we ran into him on the street and told him to cut it out, but he is a completely new person sober and I am so excited to see him progress and find the truth!
It really is always the people you never expect.
In other exciting news Sister Torrez was transfered into my district!!!! Its so awesome! She updated me on Itauna, that the kids we baptized there are firm in the church, and who has been reactivated.
Just another great week!
