Eventful week, as always. Our Christmas Conference was perfect, I feel lucky to have had that opportunity. Check the facebook page for photos and videos. After our program, we had a super fancy lunch, took lots of pictures and went home and off to work!
Irmao George, a member in the branch presidency, who looks EXACTLY like Gru from despicable me(I attached a picture, though he looks more like Gru when he shaves), asked if I could teach him and his kids piano when we have time! So I have been there a few times, teaching the hymns. They learn so fast! They are awesome students, George said that he knows I wont be here for long so they are going to really practice and learn all they can. Last time they made me a cake! Teaching them is super fun, sometimes funny as I am teaching music in portuguese! Talk about gift of tongues.
Well, another movie star featured this week. BATMAN. We were planning the other night, I saw something black in the corner of my eye, and lo and behold it was a BAT! The nasty thing, I thought it was a tarantula at first. It had a broken wing and couldnt fly, thank the heavens, so after more screaming and running around and calling the elders Sister Fjord killed it with a broom. We have brave sisters here.
We began the week working in a neighborhood Piedade, but almost all of our appointments were falling through, and though the people we did teach were great, we just werent having much success, so I took it as a sign that we were working in the wrong neighborhood, so the next day we switched to another area and had miracles after miracles. There is an investigator Jose Batista, whose wife is inactive, works close to our house, and I have taught him at his work twice because his house is really really far away, but the last few weeks he hasnt been there and the telephone number he gave us was wrong. Desperate to find him I asked many of the members if they know his wife and finally we got her full name. Then this week we made a contact with his neighbor! I still dont believe it. So we are off to timbukto this Tuesday to try and teach him and his family. I still dont fully believe the tender mercy we had making that contact.
We had many many more experiences like this, where the timing was exactly perfect to encounter just the exact person at the right time. A woman who is going through a divorce who knows a member in the branch, we stopped by Daniellas house minutes before her birthday party-in which she was crying because her son has to repeat a grade and was feeling the absence of her husband.
This week more than ever we are learning and applying the importance and the power of following spiritual promptings.
This easily was the best week of my mission thusfar, I love my mission! I am really excited for what lays ahead!
