We had a big last reunion of our zone Tuesday to say goodbye to Elder Munson who went home this week, and took more ridiculous pictures.
And then, I was transferred!!! So the assistants thought it would be "fun" to call everybody Tuesday night who was being transferred, and go to the capital, but nothing else. So I got called Tuesday, and Elder told me I would be SENIOR companion, and I have to be in Belo Horizonte bright and early tomorrow morming, without knowing who, or where. Ask me if I slept. They called around 830, so I said goodbye to Luis, called a few members and started the great adventure of packing. We left around 5am Wednesday morning to make it in time, we arrived to a flock of white shirts and ties, and found out I would be opening a new area in Ipatinga, 5 hours by bus from the capital as senior companion with Sister Miller-the cute american that lived with us for two weeks in Itauna, who has one more transfer than me, wooo!!
So now I finally feel like I am in Brasil. Its ridiculously hot and humid here, it hits the 100's every afternoon. We are literally in the jungle, in the mountains. I thought Itauna had hills, yeah thats a joke. Compared to here, Itauna was flat! Every street is like a rollar coaster with hills, up and down, heavens gracious. We visited a house up high that you have to walk on platforms and boards and I felt like I was going to Tarzans house. Some places are so steep that there are just huge scales of stairs built into the mountains. But, I absolutely love it, its gorgeous here, and though we basically melt all day long, our feet are turning black from the dirt, our necks are red from the sun, I am getting really tan(who knew that was possible), my hair is turning blonde, and I wont tell you that we feel really very pretty but we know we are doing the work of the Lord. The ward here is amazing, it just split into a branch and a ward, and we have plans to become a stake next month! The members are really strong, and excited to help us and invite everybody to church!
So anyways, 6 months into the field, and I am opening an area with another American with 7 months in the field, in an area extremely hot, extremely green, and in the mountains. Its makes for a good time. Going from a stagnant area to a busy changing one has proved to be extremely fun. I am just really excited to get to work!
My lesson for this week is to remember all the blessings you have, and to use all the resources you have, and be grateful. I have seen so many horrible diseases already in the short time, I have seen diseases that I thought you could only see on TV, and most are caused by simple things. Drink a glass of tap water and then be thankful that you can do that! Its really the simple things in life that make the difference.
Thats all for now!
Tchau!
