Wow, this is an experience! Brazil is so different from America! I mean, duh, but sometimes it just kicks me in the face.
We spend the day contacting and teaching. We find people just sitting on their curbs, people are so eager to tell you their life story and most willing to listen to your message. I dont ever understand anything, but I can nod and smile and testify! I wish I could understand the people and my companion, its very lonely living a non english world, but I just need to have patience and keep learning.
Missionary work is tough, but I am reminded of the great talk Elder Holland gave about missionary work and the atonement where he said that missionary work is not easy because salvation is not a cheap experience. We must feel some of the experience Christ had. He said when we are rejected or spit on or struggle we must remember that we are standing next to the most perfect life this world has ever known. We have every reason to stand tall.
I am learning to really lean on the Lord and pray! It is a blessing to have people be willing to listen, even though I dont think most people really comprehend what they are saying. We had this funny older couple who were pastors in their church say truth and amen like every other word in our lesson and during our prayers. I was trying not to laugh.
The food here is very good, and completely unprocessed. The sidewalks and streets are ridiculous, but its like an adventure anytime we go anywhere. Keeps me in shape!
At this point my favorite part of the day is when I get to ride the bus and look at the window because everything here still is so new!
Conference was amazing and changed my life, as per usual!
Church is true!
